Lean on Me

We’ve found a friend in this cheerfully functional stool by Yokozeki Ryota.

How does the saying go? Friends are like walls: sometimes you lean on them, and the rest of the time it’s good just to know they’re there. Tomo means friend in Japanese: it’s a fitting name for this multi-functional stool that is as useful in the bathroom as it is outside or in theΒ living room.Β

‍

Designed by Yokozeki Ryota for the Japanese brand TOOU, it’s small and lightweight, made from recycled plastic and polypropylene – the brand has a commitment to sustainability and making products that are both fit for purpose and long-lasting. It’s also very cute – TOOU takes a humanistic approach to designing products, with colours and materials that feel cheerful and personal.Β

‍

There are some very fetching colours, including a particularly lovely pink – though somewhat surprisingly, TOOU hadn’t made a pure black or a pure white version until the owners of Bauhaus in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland approached them for a custom run. Now in store in Parnell and Grey Lynn, the multi-purpose stools are highly useful and very comfortable. AΒ friend indeed.
