After sell-out open homes in Te-Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington and Central Otago, we’re looking forward to bringing the series up north. The series brings the houses you’ve seen in the magazine to life – a one-time-only opportunity to discover what these houses are like in person. Photos are lovely, but there’s nothing quite like standing in a space.

And what a house! Conceived as an ‘urban bach’ for occasional occupation, it was designed, consented and built in record time. It’s charming, with blue walls, yellow cabinetry and lots of warm ply. Fun aside, it also offers some valuable lessons in solving housing affordabilty – its owner bought an original bungalow on the front site with friends, then built himself a minor dwelling at the rear for his infrequent trips back home.

The house shows what you can do with ingenuity, use of colour – and some simple but bold moves. Thank you as ever to our event partner Dulux for their support.
