If two is better than one, then three is a whole lot better again, right? This issue, we’re opening three houses in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland with our friends at Dulux on Saturday 19 November.
Wedge Tail, by our Here Awards winners Pac Studio, will feature in the magazine next year. A classic bungalow in Maungawhau Mt Eden has been reworked and extended, stepping up to the land under one big sheltering roof. Pink cabinetry, a sarked timber ceiling and delicate painted timber screens add a sense of fun and shelter.
On a suburban site in Onehunga, meanwhile, architect Henri Sayes shows we don’t need to worry too much about density in our cities when it’s done well. Sayes bought the long, narrow site and subdivided it into three, building a house at the back around a huge pōhutukawa for his mother, followed by a second house for his family. They are connected – yet they have their own identities.
We’ll see you there!
